But once you understand the distinction, selecting the appropriate word becomes straightforward. This article is here to do just that \u2013 explain the fine differences between the two words, continually vs continuously.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"difference-between-continuously-and-continuallynbsp\">Difference between continuously and continually <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Continually<\/em>\u202fis an adverb, and the corresponding adjective for it is\u202f<em>continua<\/em><em>l<\/em>.\u202f<em>Continually<\/em>\u202fand\u202f<em>continual<\/em>\u202fare both used to describe things that recur regularly or frequently and are intermittent with intervals of interruption.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Continuously<\/em>\u202fis an adverb too, with its corresponding adjective being\u202f<em>continuous<\/em>.\u202f<em>Continuously<\/em>\u202fand\u202f<em>continuous<\/em>\u202fare also used to describe duration, specifically things that are uninterrupted in time, sequence, extent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pro tip<\/strong><em>: <\/em>The usage of continuous vs. continual is the same as the usage of continuously vs. continually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"when-to-use-continually-vs-continuouslynbsp\">When to use continually vs. continuously <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use the words\u202f<em>continuously\u202f<\/em>and\u202f<em>continuous<\/em>\u202fwhen you are talking about events that are<strong> happening without interruption and going on ceaseless<\/strong>. On the other hand, use c<em>ontinually<\/em>\u202fand\u202f<em>continual\u202f<\/em>while talking about <strong>events that are recurring and keep happening with a break<\/strong> in between them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example,&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This video of the child\u2019s birth was captured in one <em>continuous<\/em> take.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The baby shrieked&nbsp;<em>continuously<\/em> the entire time I was sleeping.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the above example, the video was shot in a single take, without any breaks or stops in the camera. Similarly, the baby shrieked the entire length of the time the mother slept, with no periods of silence in between.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The HR-training manual is <em>continually<\/em> updated by the company.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The <em>continual<\/em> bangs of rain showers during the storm kept waking me up.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, the noise of the rain is continual. It keeps happening over and over, with small stops in between.
