CACTUS Partners with American Physical Society to Automate Technical Checks Using Paperpal Preflight

Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a global technology leader offering AI-driven and expert solutions for the scholarly publishing community, has announced a partnership with the American Physical Society (APS) to automate technical checks in APS’ editorial workflow through Paperpal Preflight for Editorial Desk, an AI-powered submission readiness solution developed by CACTUS.

Traditionally, manual technical checks have been both time-consuming and resource-heavy for publishers. With submission volumes steadily increasing, editorial teams are under greater pressure to process manuscripts rapidly while upholding rigorous quality and research integrity standards. Through this collaboration, APS will adopt Paperpal Preflight in its editorial processes to simplify technical assessments, reduce manual workload, and enhance the overall speed and precision of editorial decisions.

Nikesh Gosalia, Chief Partnership Officer, Cactus Communications, said, “The volume of submissions has grown exponentially over the last few years, overwhelming editorial teams with unsustainable workloads. Paperpal Preflight for Editorial Desk is designed to address these challenges by automating technical checks and reducing manual effort. Through our partnership with APS, we aim to help streamline editorial workflows, enhance operational efficiency, and uphold the highest standards of research integrity.”

Beth Craanen, Director of Editorial Operations, American Physical Society added, “Through our collaboration with Cactus Communications, we’re making it easier for authors to meet submission standards without the frustration of multiple rounds of checks. The integration of CACTUS’ tool empowers researchers with real-time guidance, helping them prepare complete, compliant manuscripts and cutting down on time spent resolving formatting or requirement issues. This partnership highlights how AI can support high-quality scholarly publishing and improve the overall experience for researchers.”

Paperpal Preflight for Editorial Desk uses advanced AI to automate manuscript screening and ensure each submission adheres to journal-specific technical and ethical criteria before reaching editors. Collaborations like this are vital in equipping publishers, journals, and societies with solutions that protect and strengthen the integrity of scientific research.
